Scholarship Program 2019- 2020


Full Potential Learning Academy (FPLA) is a virtual one-on-one tutoring service provider. Since 1998, FPLA has been helping local students earn better grades and gain admission to their dream universities. As part of our commitment to giving back to the community, we intend to award scholarships to meritorious high school juniors.

Scholarship Award:

We intend to award one scholarship each in the month of February, April, July and November 2020.

The award includes a commendation certificate and a FREE 10 week long either SAT or ACT training program. The total value of this award is $1,890.00 (One thousand eight hundred and ninety dollars). Historically, FPLA trained students have improved their SAT® scores by about 220-320 points and ACT by up to 10 points. By any standards these are significant improvements in test scores. 

Applicant eligibility:

  • This scholarship program is open to all nationalities.
  • Applicant must be a full-time regular local high school junior.
  • Ready to take the PSAT and the SAT/ACT tests before the end of the junior year.
  • First in the family to aspire college education. No immediate family member should have earned a college degree. Grandparents, (step) parents and (step) siblings are considered immediate family members. A letter from the CAP counsellor, principal, or a homeroom teacher must attest this fact.
  • Minimum weighted GPA of 4.0.
  • Students should have completed Algebra 2 by their sophomore year, and currently enrolled in advanced math courses such as Precalculus/Trigonometry, College algebra, Calculus, Statistics, etc.
  • Must share the results of previously taken ACT or SAT tests, if any.
  • An original letter of recommendation from the CAP counsellor, principal, homeroom teacher or other school administrators from the current school.

Award conditions: 

The scholarship winners should agree to be photographed and agree to be feature their audio/video interview on the FPLA website and shared on FPLA - social media channels.

How to apply?

To apply for this scholarship, you must submit a 1,000 to 1,250 word essay describing your background, ambitions, aspirations and the motivations to go to college.

An award-winning essay will include:

Introductory paragraph, main body in multiple paragraphs arranged in a logical sequence, and a summary paragraph.

Tips for writing an award-winning essay:

Before you begin writing the essay, list your priorities in life, academic, scholastic, community service achievements and where you envision yourself five and ten years from now? Research the top three universities that you plan to enroll and their admission requirements. Think through the career path you plan to pursue. Elaborate your thoughts using these outlines. Your first draft may significantly exceed the word limit. However, subsequent revisions should bring the final word count to 1,000-1,250 words. Give the final draft to your English teacher, the CAP counsellor, a trusted friend, mentor or your parents to critique. If you agree to their suggestions, incorporate them and finalize the essay.

Format the essay using the following guidelines: Font - Ariel; Font size - 12, Line spacing - 1.5, Page margin - one-inch on all sides.
 
Your name, school name and the page number should be typed on all the pages. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may disqualify your application from being reviewed.

Application package should include the following:

  • Completed and signed scholarship application form.
  • Official transcript.
  • One letter of recommendation from the CAP counsellor, advisor, homeroom teacher, principal or a responsible unrelated adult who is closely associated with the student’s wellbeing.
  • Essay in Microsoft word format. The essay should strictly meet the formatting guidelines.

Evaluation process and selecting the winner:

All the applications will undergo two rounds of screening as detailed below:

  • Round 1: All the submitted applications will be reviewed for timely submission, compliance to the rules and regulation and completeness of the application. All the essays will be checked for plagiarism using an industry standard software. Any signs of plagiarism will be a basis for rejecting theapplication. We reserve the right to report it to the respective school administration.Incomplete and ineligible applications will be excluded from further review.
  • Round 2:The shortlisted applications will be reviewed for originality and uniqueness.
    The essays will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Organization and logical interpretation : 40 points.
  • Vocabulary and style                            : 30 points.
  • Reasoning and critical thinking skills   : 20 points.
  • Spelling, grammar, and punctuation    : 10 points.

Only one submission per student will be accepted.

Application deadline:

Cycle 1

Application due by Monday, June 01, 2020.      We will notify the results on or around 
Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Cycle 2

Application due by Tuesday, March 31, 2020.      We will notify the results on or around
Friday, April 17, 2020.

All the applicants will be informed of the decision. Separately, we will inform the CAP counsellor about the winner. 

FPLA administration reserves the right to increase
the award category or not to award due to poor response.

We must receive ten applications for each round. Failure to receive ten application may result in the cancellation of the review process.
